If its one thing that your children should be exposed to before they reach school age, and all through their learning years, its educational toys. Many parents want their children to be exposed to all the right concepts and ways of thinking early on, and the earlier the better. Children learn extremely easily when they are young, and giving them high quality educational toys will give them a huge advantage throughout their entire lives. Just buying learning toys alone is not the only solution, however its a great start and should be a major part of any childs toy chest. Educational toys dont have to be super complicated. With all the computerized voice systems and leapfrogs etc.. some people may think that only electronic toys are valuable. This is certainly not the case. Really any new concept, smell, taste, music or way of thinking that your child is exposed to can make learning happen. When I was young I learned a great deal from just simple building blocks. They were just sanded down, coated pine blocks without very sharp edges that I would stack and knock down.

Computers Work Too

I dont want to discount the value of computerized toys however. If there is one thing that completely permeates modern society, its the rise of computers across the spectrum of our daily lives. Your children need to be exposed to computers, and at an early age. Just think about how important computers are to our daily lives now, and you can easily imagine 15 or 20 years from now, computers and the people who can operate them will run our world.

That said, you dont just have to sit your toddler down in front of your brand new laptop. You can buy a video game system made just for preschoolers abd school age children. The games are more than just fun, they also teach things like logic, colors, sounds, math, letters, and just about anything else you can imagine. Many of these items are specifically designed by early educational and neurological scientists to specifically help your child expand their brainpower. These toys can provide a huge boost and really help your child become exposed to things that they wouldnt normally be exposed to just crawling around the home.

Limited TV Use

I often see parents who either abuse the benefits of TV for their children, or try and block them from it completely. Both are hazardous to your childs growth. The fact is, TV is a huge part of modern culture and having a child who has no clue about TV put them at a disadvantage when your child tries to relate to the rest of society. This is not to say that you should plop your kid down in front of the tube and leave it at that. Limit your childs exposure to a couple of hours a day. The baby einstein videos are excellent, as is much of the educational television that is out there. Browse around on the internet and look at the education toys that are available. A little effort will go along way and your child will benefit from your attention to their learning.
