If you are looking for a wireless router, definately consider the Dlink DIR-625 wireless router. This router is affordable, easy to setup, backwards compatible, and fast. This is my third router and I had problems with the other two, but I think i’ve finally found the router for me. Lets take a look at some of the features of this router that make it stand out:

Wireless and Ethernet Ports

Some of the cheap wireless routers nowadays skip the ethernet cable ports and only have the wireless option available. Although this seems to be a dying trend, I would definately not recommend any wireless routers that do not have both wireless and wired options. The DIR-625 has 4 100mb ethernet ports on it which is great since I have a couple of desktop machines that I need to hook up to it and I dont want to have to stack different types of routers on my home network.

QoS Engine

This router has an excellent Quality of Service, or QoS engine built in. This automatic engine will prioritize your internet traffic to give priority to streaming types of applications such as Voice Over IP(VoIP) and multiplayer gaming. I have personally played World of Warcraft and City of Heroes both in raid and PvP situations and have been rock solid even though I was on a wireless connection from the other side of my home. This is a great feature.

Backwards Compatibility

This router supports all the major styles of 802.11. B, G and even N. I dont currently have any N devices in my home, but I do have multiple B and G devices and its good to know that when I get an N capable device, ill be all set. The secure encryption available with this router is WEP, WPA, and WPA2 so you can secure your router up to whatever level you see fit. Be sure to secure your router, its a really good idea.

Extras

The Dlink DIR-625 has a bunch of nice extras available that really set it apart, especially seeing as how this router is not super expensive. A USB 2.0 port is available so you can hook up with USB if you need to. It has parental controls that can be flipped on easily, as well as SPI and NAT firewalls built in. The router comes with dual antennas which may help with the range, since this router has quite a good range on it compared to wireless routers i’ve had in the past.

Overall, I would definately recommend the Dlink DIR-625 router. Its been a dream to setup and has given me months of rock solid stable usage. It even works well with my wife’s iPhone!
