Now that the holidays are over, many of us find ourselves beginning the great clean up. I was one of those lucky souls who inherited a large number of gift bags this holiday season and now I have nowhere to put them. Once you add that to the stack of unused bows, ribbon, gift tags and the like, I have quite the assortment.

Getting Organized

Most people busy themselves with holiday worries about gaining weight. The expansion of my waist size during the holidays does not irritate me half as much as the expansion of certain collections that happens at this time of year. I live in a small house and do not have as much storage as I need. And because of this, I am constantly seeking out new ways to be better organized and find places for all of my stuff. One collection that is actually quite random and therefore difficult to organize and pack away appropriately is the gift wrapping assortment.

Finding Storage

Finding a good home for the gift bags and whatnot is not as much of a chore as finding a good place for all the leftover wrapping paper. I currently have five different roles of holiday wrapping paper and 300 some odd days until the next Christmas. All in all I have to say that it really is my own fault for wanting several different types of wrapping paper so that I had a bit of variety. Unfortunately now I am stuck looking for a good place to store these until the gift giving season rolls around again.

Use A Storage Bin

Taking some advice from my mother, the consummate homemaker and organizational extraordinaire, I went out and bought myself a wrapping paper storage bin, which I believe was made by Rubbermaid. This sucker was only about 10 bucks and can hold close to a dozen rolls of wrapping paper. There is also a compartment for scissors, tape, bows, and any other little items that you might like to keep with your wrapping paper collection.

Now that all the wrapping paper is organized and put together in one centralized location, I am left with finding a good place to keep this giant piece of plastic. Although storage options have evolved quite a bit, the large plastic pieces are nevertheless an eyesore. Relatively small and not as bulky as most other storage options, the Rubbermaid bin is about the size of a small kitchen trash can. For now it will have to live in what I called the “junk room” at my house.
