During the past 30 years, sunbathing has remained a popular pastime. Sunless tanning spray has been around for most of that time, but no one used it. Why would someone try sunless tanning lotions when you could sit under the real sun. Some people would use the sunless tanning lotion a bit in the winter, but it was still not very popular. One big reason for the lack of use was the terrible color it made most peoples skin. It would make people turn a sickly orange color. It was basically a spray on orange dye. It was very obvious to anyone.

Modern Tanning Lotions

Sunless tanning lotions have come a long way. The sunless tanning sprays on the market today are nothing like what was available in the 80’s and even mid 90’s. Instead of just coating the skin with dye, these sprays cause the skin to secrete the same chemicals that it does when it is exposed to sunlight. Its essentially an actual real tan, the color you become is the same color you become when you sit out in the sun, minus the redness. Sunless tanning lotions do not quite create the same smooth, even tan as natural sunlight does, but its extremely close. Most people consider it better than using a modern tanning booth..

Tanning Booths

Tanning booths do have a couple of advantages still. Although they certainly increase the risk of skin cancer, they can be very refreshing and rejuvinating during the winter months. For people living in the northern areas, the winter season can mean dark, cloudy skies, and constantly rain or snow. Tanning booths give you that feel of summer and can really help keep peoples spirits up when its dark and cloudy all the time. Sunless tanning lotions wont do this. When you go into a tanning booth, you get to feel the sunlight absorbing into your skin. It warms you up and makes you feel alive again.

One big plus of sunless tanning is that its just quicker and easier. I am a busy professional and I dont have time to sit around under the sun for hours on the weekends, and I certainly cant be tanning during the week while I’m at work. Sunless tanning allows me to just go in and get the spray done at regular intervals and be done with it. Its even easier and faster than tanning booths are. When I used tanning booths I would have to cover myself with tanning lotion, and get in a bed for 20-30 minutes at a time once or twice a week. This isnt too bad, but sunless tanning lotions are even easier. If you are someone who tans regularly, sunless tanning is definately something you should be looking into.
