If there is one thing that kids love to play with in the summer, its water toys. If its toys in the pool, squirt guns, slip and slides, or other lawn games, playing in the water and keeping cool is one of my favorite summer memories. When I was young the only thing we had was a sprinkler. This was sufficient however and we would run around it often in the summer, the dog would jump in it and it was just alot of fun for everyone. We didnt have alot of squirt guns, but we would occasionally save up some money or trade for a squirt gun somehow. We didnt really use water balloons then, although that would have been alot of fun. Sometimes we would just run around with water in the yard and splash each other.

Times Have Changed

Todays water toys are far more advanced then they once were. Children have access to wonderful water toys I would only have dreamed of. We have an outdoor pool at my home in the backyard, so there’s plenty of opportunity to play in and around the water.

My children have all sorts of fun water toys. A couple of years ago it was just the water wings that they had on their arms. Now they have rubber tubes, water noodles, inflatable mattresses, and big pump action squirt guns. They swim up to each other on the tubes and sometimes try to knock each other off with the noodles.

Crazy Squirt Guns

Now if its one thing that has changed the most since I was a kid, its the squirt guns. When I was young the squirt guns were leaky little pieces of plastic that didnt hold much water and shot about 10 feet. Times have certainly changed! These monstrous squirt guns around now can hold about a quart of water each, having large chambers for holding the water, and can literally shoot 40 feet. You just bump these things up a bit like it was a BB gun or something, and pull the trigger. The air pressure shoots the water across the entire yard.

Squirt guns, and water toys in general have certainly advanced with the times. If you live in the southern part of the US or southern Europe, your children may be able to use the water toys for most of the year. Even if you live in a northern climate, its still worth it to invest in a set of those big squirt guns for the summer months. Keep it safe and have fun, water toys are one of the best ways to beat the heat!
